A rambunctious shut-in. "Lapis" is just what they calls themselves, a sort of pseudonym. Their real name is Ruri. For a lack of better terms, they make a living making their presence known online: online sex work, GFE, and worst of all... Freelance data entry gigs. They understand their hold over others with a sense of distanced coldness and a degree of seperation. This has led to them receiving a lot of ire, but they take it in stride.
They used to be very studious, with a deep interest in humanities, ethics, and philosophy in particular. They were a model student, hoping to one day be a teacher, and often took positions of student leader no matter what the case may be, because they revelled in understanding their peers. They looked a lot different back then. Their hair was shorter, and they often wore glasses. They had a gross fixation towards Michie, a girl in their grade, who they were assigned to help get out of a rut.
Despite their best efforts, however, Michie wouldn't budge. Lapis tried so hard to understand Michie but kept getting turned down, burnt, and eventually, Michie dropped out, all from a suggestion Lapis made in a fit of anger, vitriol, and rage— that there was nothing left for Michie at school anymore, since that Nino girl that Michie clung to was gone.
After this failure, Lapis was beyond themselves. They went through the rest of their school days listlessly, before coming to the conclusion that they never truly even understood anyone at all. They never went to post-secondary school after this, and instead went on to do what they have been doing all these years. They wanted to understand themselves, first and foremost.
They live in a small apartment flat in a tiny, two story complex. Their next door neighbor is Emi, and Lapis often has to go out of their comfort zone (that is, going outside) to visit Emi once in a while to help clean up her sloppy place. By coincidence, they met with Michie and Nino again via their neighbor, Emi, but Lapis had changed so much that neither of them recognized them at all. "Who are you again?" Although a bit upset, Lapis accepted this. After all, they are hardly the same person they were back then.
They are very confident and quick to tease others, but if there is one thing that they are bashful about, it's trying to explain what led themselves to the point they are now. Unsure if this is something that would be accepted. For now, though, they are comfortable keeping it vague.
nut comment: I will adress this immediately. I use "they" very intently to refer to Lapis. I haven't updated the Nino story with Lapis to reflect this in any capacity (they are biologically female, just to get that out of the way), but this is something that I've decided reflecting upon them recently. I think for their story this is something that makes sense for them. Don't worry too much about it, though. Lapis won't be upset~! She is fine, It is fine, even He is fine, honestly even just calling them a Thing is fine. Lapis is Lapis, after all! Lapis is your everything!
I cannot deny that out of the five girls that Lapis is the silliest one in conceit. Their origin actually stems from an ARG, lol. The story is very funny looking back at it— my first neocities site iteration had an OC page where, if you clicked on an empty space, you'd be led to a page where you'd need to inspect the html code to see a hidden message from Lapis. Eventually, there was a little (cringy in retrospect... lol. I won't link it but you can find it if you look I think) show I did on my stream while I was playing Melty Blood where Lapis announced their presence in some text bubbles. The channel point redeem currency (Nutcoins) was basically framed to be a pyramid scheme crypto rugpull, lmfao. I feel like that joke didn't age very well honestly lol. I remember those days, where I had a redeem where you could get Nino or Emi to say something random to you like a lucky 8-ball.
Lapis was ultimately someone who was at a crossroads. Their path in school reflected mine. The desire to be a teacher, the desire to understand others, the desire to be loved and appreciated. They had a clear path ahead of them, but a fixation shattered their entire sense of being and made them stray from their original path. Was it the wrong path? Who's to say. I'm sure that's something we all come across: a crossroads moment, with your choice ultimately being influenced by your lived experiences. I cannot deny that I may have strayed to a path that was something I would consider wrong in hindsight before. So many times, I've done so. But hindsight is a bitch. You can't get hung up on the "could haves" or "should haves" in cases like this. You take the hand you are dealt, and roll with it. Lapis represents that for me, and represents a lot of the troubled thoughts that come to mind when I think about how I want to purvey myself online. Ultimately, I've decided to just be as liberated as can be and unabashedly be myself (I still have my own secrets, of course! Just how I like to present myself.) It's the same for them.
